Calf Implants (Calf Augmentation)

Calf implants also called as calf augmentation, it is a procedure to increase the size and shape of the calf.

Many people are dissatisfied with the shape/size of their calf muscles to the point that they avoid wearing clothes that expose their legs.

It is a very popular procedure, and will create cosmetic fullness in the lower leg and can help those men and women who, even after extensive muscular development, can’t achieve the calf muscle toning they desire. The procedure can also correct muscle imbalance as a result of both physical and congenital defects ( skinny/ chicken legs, bowleggednes, clubfoot, or disproportionate calf development)

The calf of the leg may also be smaller or thinner than desired due to surgery, injury, illness or congenital defect. Correcting this asymmetry with implants can help alleviate embarrassment and self-consciousness, leading to an improved self-image

Calf implants are usually solely performed by a small, select group of plastic and cosmetic surgeons who have performed thousands of those procedures and have the in depth experience required in forming (sculpting) and placing the solid silicone implants that are utilized in the medical procedure—assuring that they donot shift from their original positions or develop infection, two areas where serious medical problems could occur after surgery. Calf implants can even be used to correct deformities resulting from injury or nerve diseases that lead to muscle deterioration. Such deformities include, polio, club foot, spinabifida. Calf implants using solid or soft silicone implants addresses these problematic areas.

Men and women seek calf implants for various reasons. While men generally seek an appearance that emphasizes the bulk of the calf muscle, women usually want calf implants for purposes of anatomical balance, where the lower leg is sculpted to be more proportionate to the thighs.

those people with a high muscle belly, often called a high insertion, have great difficulty in building calf mass, because of the lack of striated muscle in the area. Those with a low insertion will sometimes attain more mass, but lack the definition that often accompanies the high insertion muscle type. Fortunately, calf implants will solve both scenarios by adding both mass and definition.

Calf augmentation is anunique procedure designed to enhance the fullness of the lower legs, restoring healthy volume below the knee. This method will involve either a silicone implant and/or a fat grafting technique. Using one or more silicone implant within the targeted space

Calf Implants Can

  • Add emphasis to a small calf muscle
  • Create a proper shape/size for the lower leg
  • Improve leg definition
  • Correct lower leg defects which caused due to injury, disease, or birth conditions

The legs are measured at a pre-operative office visit and appropriate sized implants are ordered and prepared sterile. On the day of surgery the patient is placed under general anaesthesia and turned onto the abdomen on the operating theatre table. Making a tiny incision along the crease behind both the knees, in a well-concealed location.

Next, a small, snug pocket will be created below the fascia (connective tissue), covering the gastrocnemius muscle. He will then place the suitably sized silicone implants inside the medial or lateral compartments, creating the desired fullness and shape. Finally, sutures are placed along the incisions and a compression garment is put in place to make sure correct healing.
